QUT College Construction Complete

In early 2019, PDT was engaged by QUT to reconfigure and reimagine the existing spaces within the QUT College at Kelvin Grove to enhance the student and staff experience by providing high-quality teaching spaces, increased access and connectivity between teaching and student zones, along with greater staff amenities and more efficient office space.

After a year of collaborative design, January 2020 saw the commencement of construction on the College and with the recent handover to QUT, PDT and Head Contractor - Buildcorp, couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome. The multimillion-dollar project was broken down into three key construction phases to ensure the strict ongoing academic and operational requirements of the College were not compromised by the refurbishment works.

Stage 1 included the construction of all Student and Teaching zones which comprised of six collaborative classrooms, informal student breakout spaces and public amenities spread across three levels of the building. These works were closely followed by the commencement of Stage 2 staff office spaces to accommodate administration, teaching and the directorate staff of the College.

The final Stage 3 incorporated the transient zones that connect the teaching and student spaces completed in Stages 1 and 2. This included the main building entry foyer that houses a double height sculptural metal tree and custom designed concierge facilities for the students.

As a result, the project team have created a space that has transformed the College into a renowned destination that facilitates diversity and a supportive platform into the greater University. The new design has further demonstrated the College’s mission to assist in the transformation of students, alongside a premium pathway equipped with quality services.
