Landscape design, urban design and masterplanning for the new $20m Gold Coast University Hospital is currently being documented by a joint venture team comprising PDT Landscape Architects and Hassell, which covers approximately 8 hectares of parklands, streetscape, revegetation and courtyards. Landscape features include an extensive Mental Health Facility with every room designed to have views of and access to an appropriately landscaped courtyard and a Pathology/Education building with a breakout courtyard for 200 people. The mass of the main hospital building is broken down through the use of major podium courtyards, including a Cancer Services Healing Garden and a multi-user Paediatrics play area. The project is due for completion in 2012.
