PDT have been working with McConaghy Properties to deliver their latest $34M redevelopment of Castletown Shopping Centre in Townsville. Significant progress has been made onsite in recent months with the demolition of a portion of the existing centre now complete, and construction of the redevelopment works well underway.
The redevelopment includes a new northern pedestrian entry to the centre, providing a shaded external public space, and a new statement entrance addressing the main road, Woolcock Street. This structure and roofing are nearing completion, and works to reconfigure and refinish the entry interior have commenced, including a new lift connecting the basement carpark and entry levels, new ceiling and wall linings, and new internal floor finishes to start at the end of this month.
Externally the vehicular entry is being reconfigured, with the structural steel and concreting completed to incorporate a new roofed basement entry ramp. Works will also enhance the existing northern elevation addressing Woolcock Street, incorporate dedicated Click and Collect parking for Coles, and to make the on-grade parking more efficient.
The structure, roofing and cladding to the new mall precinct have also been completed, providing increased ceiling heights and clerestory glazing to the north and south, for a light filled gathering and dining space adjacent to the new in-coming Major tenant, Coles.
Reconfiguration of the existing steel structure and roofs have also been completed to incorporate the new Coles tenancy. Structural slab changes have been completed to accommodate new sub-floor services requirements, and the supermarket’s plant and refrigeration installation is underway.
The first stage is on track for completion before the end of the year, with Coles due to open for trading in the first quarter of 2022.
This exciting extension to the existing Castletown offer is eagerly awaited by local shoppers. PDT look forward to experiencing the final outcome in the coming months and are proud to be a part of the consultancy team on another regional shopping centre.
