Manly Residence

Revitalising a 1970s Manly Unit for Modern Living.

PDT was engaged to transform a dated three-bedroom 1970s unit in Manly, Sydney, into a contemporary home that reflects the owners’ love for entertaining and passion for cooking. The original layout was highly segmented, with inefficient use of space: a small, enclosed kitchen disconnected from the living area, a cramped dining nook, and an oversized living room lacking balance.

Our design approach centred on creating an open plan layout that celebrates connection and flow. The kitchen became the heart of the home, the hero space and social hub. Working within existing structural constraints, we cleverly integrated a structural column into the island bench design, turning a limitation into a striking focal feature.

The reconfigured plan orients each space towards the breathtaking views, enhancing the sense of openness and light. In the bathrooms, we embraced contrast: the ensuite features soft, warm tones for a serene feel, while the main bathroom devoid of natural light was designed as a moody, atmospheric retreat.

The result is a warm, elegant, and inviting home with a distinct personality crafted to suit the owners’ lifestyle and elevate their everyday experience.
