St Andrews Place Day Surgery
PDT Architects worked with Formula Interiors to deliver the new St Andrew’s Place Day Surgery. The project spanned Ground and Level 4, and is part of an important expansion for St Andrew’s Hospital and designed to meet the increasing demand for same-day procedures.
The vision was clear from the outset: to shift away from traditional hospital aesthetics and deliver a space that feels warm and welcoming. This was done to create a calming, but visually intriguing, day surgery experience for all; in particular to create a playful space for the many children who will use the facility.
Delivered under tight timeframes, eight months for design and five months for construction, the project involved close collaboration with hospital stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of clinical workflows and compliance requirements. The design includes three new operating rooms, upgraded procedure spaces, multi-stage recovery areas, and separate zones for adult and paediatric patients. Key design elements, such as curved bulkheads and use of glass blocks to, respond to complex constraints while enhancing wayfinding and natural light.
