Multi-Purpose Hall, Yandina State School
PDT Architects were engaged by the Department of Education to deliver two significant projects at Yandina State School, on the Sunshine Coast. The first of these projects was a new two-story General Learning Area (GLA) building, and due to the success of the GLA, PDT was once again engaged to lead the design of a new Multi-Purpose Hall on the same site.
Recognising that the hall would be used by both the school and the wider community, our design approach focused on creating a strong sense of arrival, incorporating architectural flair while maintaining operational efficiency for daily school activities.
The sports hall features durable Pulastic flooring in the school’s colours, offering a high-quality surface suitable for a variety of activities. It includes a basketball court with height-adjustable boards for both young users and adults, a netball court, a volleyball court, and three pickleball courts—catering to the growing popularity of this emerging sport. Taking advantage of its strategic site location, the hall incorporates integrated tiered grandstand seating that serves both the sports oval and the external basketball courts. Above, a multi-purpose room provides space for sporting administration and enables clear supervision of the entire field and courts.
