Mt Cotton Road Fire & Rescue Station

Queensland Fire Department (QFD) required a new Fire & Rescue Station and associated training facilities to service the Carbrook area, under a compressed project program.

PDT were engaged as the principal consultant by QBuild to develop the preliminary concept into a workable design, coordinated and approved by all relevant stakeholders. Due to the compressed program, innovation was required, and the project was to be procured with the Station (with the exception the Engine Bay) and Multi-Purpose Building be Prefabricated.

PDT worked collaboratively with QBuild, Hutchison Builders and consultants, modifying the planning and design so that it could be constructed off site into transportable components. Additionally, PDT worked collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure works could commence on site as module fabrication was occurring, through a unique staging process that assisted in site preparation ready for module delivery and installation. The design of a self-draining and ventilated sub floor allowed the placement of the modules at ground level, enhancing amenity and allowing for on grade access. PDT and the consultant team also worked through design solutions to ensure significant trees at the front of the site could be retained, and incorporated design work for upgrades to the Coorang Road & Mt Cotton Road Intersection, along with a road widening along Coorang Road.

The facility incorporates a three bay Engine Room, Road Crash Rescue Pad, and a Training Tower.
