Central Energy Plant Arts Queensland
PDT was commissioned by Arts Queensland to design an extension to the Central Energy Plant (CEP) at the Queensland Cultural Centre (QCC) in South Brisbane. The extension aimed to ensure the CEP could meet peak mechanical loads and provide essential services like electrical power, chilled water, and heating to the entire QCC complex, including the State Library of Queensland, Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Queensland Art Gallery, and Queensland Museum.
The QCC is entered in the Queensland Heritage Register and therefore the design was subject to the requirements of the Queensland Heritage Act 1992, and features an exoskeletal breathable facade with horizontal acoustic screening sympathetic to the heritage-listed building's original design intent.
