Central Energy Plant, Gold Coast University Hospital
PDT Architects, as part of the GCUH Consortium, was commissioned as part of the overall project to design and document the Central Energy Plant Building for the Gold Coast University Hospital campus. This essential facility provides cooling and generator backup for the entire hospital campus, ensuring uninterrupted operations and optimal climate control.
The design included a 4-level plant building with a basement tunnel connection to the main hospital buildings, and houses electrical generators, chillers, and cooling towers on the roof. The design incorporated complex engineering coordination and acoustic treatments to minimize impact on surrounding buildings, along with future allowance to expand as needed to support the master plan of the entire campus.
